Topics include:The Disaster ProcessUnderstanding how disasters are managed Preparing for DeploymentChecklists and considerations so you are ready when needed Building a Temporary Emergency ShelterStrategies for shelter location and design, basic equipment assembly Animal BehaviorsGeneral understanding of animal behaviors includingfacial expressions and stresses Daily CareSkills and procedures to provide daily care of animals Diseases and ParasitesProcesses and skills for recognizing and reporting illness Cleaning and DisinfectingConsideration procedures and options to limit spread of diseaseTear Down & Clean UpProcesses during tear down to improve readiness for the next disasterPrerequisites: 18 years of age or older**Students 16-18 may register with parent or guardianThis Awareness Level (Level 1) class will give you the knowledge and practical experience you need to work in an emergency animal shelter and become a FL SARC Responder or part of GOODMEWS new Disaster Response Program.Class Size is LimitedNational Certificate

09:00am - 05:00pm Florida State Animal Response Coalition (FL SARC), in partnership with the Oklahoma Small Animal Response Team MRC Unit 433 is pleased to offer the Operations Level & Train the Trainer Courses in Small Animal Disaster and Emergency Sheltering.Prerequisites: Completion of level 1OKSMART Member*VMD & VT 32 CE Credit Hours for from OVMBThis Operations Level (Lv 2) course builds on current knowledge to develop shelter leaders and managers providing strategic consideration needed to set up and manage the operations at an emergency animal shelter.Incident Command System - Basic ICSHow it is used in shelter operations  Biosecurity and DecontaminationUnderstanding of pathogens and concepts of decontamination.  Facility Design Considerations Leadership Roles Studied-Safety Officer Volunteer Resources Supply & Logistics Animal Intake Donation Coordination Reunification Transport Kennel Lead  Supervising Volunteers in EmergenciesThe Train the Trainer CourseStudents review both Awareness and Operations course material,with the focus on L\learning how to present class material and practical's, understanding of class administration, preparation, and associated the logistics to for courses. Students will gain an understanding of instructor presentation styles and how they can impact a student learning and what different student learning abilities are. Understanding distance learning concepts though technology like Live instructor-led zoom classes.
