Duval County Practices Pet-Friendly Concept
On June 12th Duval County rehearsed putting together a multi-purpose emergency shelter for general and special-needs populations, and an animal or pet-friendly unit at Mandarin Middle School. The exercise/drill involved personnel from the county health department, animal control department, the Red Cross and FDACS-Tallahassee. “We certainly encourage people who need it to use the shelter in an emergency,” said Dawn Wood, who coordinated the Duval County exercise, “but we also want to encourage residents to stay aware of their situation and make plans to evacuate early…with their pets.” |
